EMERGENCE

A photographic collection with makeup inspired by the art and music of
Blushing Satellite.

The focus of this series was to depict breaking out of the cocoon of self-loathing and the fear of disappointing other people that we wrap ourselves in, and emerge strong and radiant; moving forward, fearlessly.

Notice that moth seeking out the light? Dazed and still, marked with intricate patterns. Beautiful. But not more than a butterfly.

You leave it where it is. Where you left it while it was a cocoon. Where you left it as a bug.

Hours later, you walk by it again.

"Oh, you're still here," you think to yourself.

The moth has moved closer to the light and before you can walk away and forget about it again, you think;

"That's a really pretty moth."
Do not look into her eyes. The starlight will draw you in. Closer and closer until you're just a breath away.

And when she envelopes you in her, you might just wonder;

Who's the moth and who's the flame?
How often do you pray to the idols in your house?
Those silent faces of a holy being that watch you as you live and they do not.

How often do you look at them and remember that a prayer is due?
That a trouble that worried you, could be now lightened somehow.

How often do you notice another presence watching you too?
There it is, still as your idols, placed in a corner. With many wings instead of arms, but a creature of design too.
